South Carolina squandered a second half lead to a 2-5 Tennessee team and lost 41-21 Saturday.

The Gamecocks were up 21-17 at halftime, but did not score after that.

With the win, Tennessee's record improves to 3-5. USC falls 3-5. The game was played in Knoxville, Tenn.

It looked promising for the Gamecocks early in a game that was almost a must-win if USC is to get six wins and become bowl eligible.

South Carolina scored on the first play of the game on a pass play from Ryan Hillinski to Shi Smith. Mon Denson also scored on a run from the one-half yard line after a Carolina drive.

USC took the lead late in the first half on one of the most acrobatic plays of the season, when WR Brian Edwards went up and snagged a Hillinski pass with one hand at the half-yard line. Tavien Feaster scored with seconds left in the half.
