FAIRFIELD CENTRAL 21 CAMDEN 20
A blocked field goal by Marcus Alston as time expired gave Fairfield Central their second region win and upset over the Camden Bulldogs. It was the first loss for the 3rd ranked Bulldogs. Fairfield implemented some wildcat offense and Camden may or may not have seen a whole lot of that on film going in. Also, two bad snaps led to some short field possessions for the Griffins offense. I think this was by far the best defense the Bulldogs have seen thus far. In the loss, Willis Lane had 130 yards and a score. Camden had 348 yards of offense on 50 plays.
BLYTHEWOOD 42 IRMO 35
The Yellow Jackets of Irmo put on a rally scoring 21 points in the fourth quarter but it wasn't enough to knock off Blythewood. Josh Strickland was efficient yet again going 19 of 23 passing for 196 yards and 3 scores. Josh Burrell caught 5 of those for 79 yards and a score. However, what jumped out to me in this win for Blythewood were the rushing numbers. They had 247 yards on the ground overall. That's dangerous for the rest of thier opponents. We have known that they can sling it around, but now they add a few weapons and can run out clock, and pick up first downs another way. I really feel like this offense is getting better and better each week. In the loss Dylan Williams had a really good game. The 10th grader accounted for 4 of the team's five touchdowns.
RIDGE VIEW 47 RICHLAND NORTHEAST 0
Another region win making them 2-0. This Blazer team is gaining confidence on both sides of the ball at just the right time. They have allowed 15 points the last three games while scoring an average of 44 in those contests. Cincere Scott had 3 scores including passing for one. Jordan Smith had 4 grabs for 142 yards and a touchdown. Isiah Hughey reached the endzone twice while Dwight Jacobs had an eighty yard pick 6. Ridge View will face Westwood on Friday.
SPRING VALLEY 16 LUGOFF-ELGIN 10
I called it a must win for both teams and the Vikings held on, doing just enough for the win. Lugoff-Elgin had their opportunities in this one but could not punch it in. They had the ball twice inside the Spring Valley 40, but came away with no points. A key moment camen when the Demons tried to go for it on 4th and 1 at their own 27 and was denied. The Vikings got the go ahead score and that was all they needed. I did wanna say this. DeQuandre Smith at QB for Spring Valley has something. He's only a 10th grader but he might have a chance to be really good. There are a lot of sophomores that made plays for he Vikings. Those guys might be taking some lumps and growing pains this year, but you can see some potential on that team.
In the loss, Josh Gary had 5 catches for 96 yards and a touchdown. Demons still have an outside chance at making the post season, but they have to win out with Irmo and Blythewood left on the schedule. Spring Valley still has top ranked Sumter and Blythewood on their schedule.
WESTWOOD 28 YORK 22 F/OT
Gusty win for the Redhawks. They jumped out to a 16-0 lead and allowed York to crawl back in it and make it a game. It's always a tough place to play up there, so keep that in mind. Even when York is down, they find ways to make it interesting. This game was actually tied with 9 minutes left in regulation. York had lined up to win it with a field goal but Westwood blocked the kick. with two seconds left on the clock. In the overtime period, Julian Milligan caught a swing pass on the first play and scored. The Cougars were stifled by the athletic Westwood defense for four straight downs and that ended the game.
DUTCH FORK 48 RIVERBLUFF 14
The Gators get handed thier first loss of the season. Ty Olenchuck breaks the all-time school record for touchdown passes. It gives him 98 for his career. He is about 500 yards or so away from crossing another record off the list, too. Tennessee Vol commit Jalin Hyatt had 4 grabs for 135 yards and two scores. The unbeaten streak for the Silver Foxes extend to 33 straight.
HEATHWOOD HALL 35 BEN LIPPEN 7
Most wins in a season for Heathwood since 2009. Ronnie Porter is one of the more unheralded players in the area. He eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark Friday night after rushing for 212 and 2 touchdowns. Ronnie's brother, Rondarius had a couple of tackles for loss in the win including a sack. Heathwood is 6-2 on the season.
LOWER RICHLAND 42 CRESTWOOD 17
2nd region win for the Diamond Hornets. They are positioning themselves for a playoff spot. They would like to finish no worse than second so that they can secure a home game. They still have some tough ones left to play though.
ORANGEBURG-WILKINSON 28 DREHER 7
Watch out for OW. This team might have it together at the right time. Saw the highlights and they are long, and tall on both sides of the ball. Lot of length at corner and wideout. They are fast on the edges too. Going to be a real interesting challenge for the undefeated AC Flora Falcons this Friday night.
AC FLORA 34 LAKEWOOD 14
Speaking of the unbeaten Falcons, they had no trouble with Lakewood. Falcons led 28-0 going into the fourth before the Gators ever got on the board.
AIRPORT 30 NORTH AUGUSTA 29
Huge win for Kirk Burnett and the Eagles on the road. They are 2-0 so far with Aiken coming up. This region may very well come down to the Eagles rivals in Brookland-Cayce at the end of the season.
BROOKLAND-CAYCE 35 SOUTH AIKEN 20
The Bearcats keep on rolling. We have not discussed Bearcats tailback Will Way much. He has put together some strong performances here of late. He had 281 on the ground Friday night. On defense, Demoni Jones had 3 sacks.
HAMMOND 57 PORTER-GAUD 6
Top prospect Jordan Burch had 2 touchdowns, a couple of sacks and a blocked a field goal for the Skyhawks.
