A man traveling on I-77 in Richland County, Friday, had a heart attack and died, after crashing his vehicle.

Paul Ivy Edwards Jr., 73, of Philadelphia was identified as the man involved in the accident, by Richland County Coroner Gary Watts. Edwards died of cardiac arrest at 12:43 p.m. Friday, Watts said.

Edwards was driving on Interstate 77 near mile marker 19 just before noon when he suffered the heart attack and drove off the highway, according to Watts. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Edwards was transported to Prisma Health Richland Hospital, where he died after noon.
