Opal Celeste Redding, 42, of Columbia, died Thursday, May 13, 2021. Born December 20, 1978, in Florence, SC, she was the daughter of Ginger Nell Sharpe Scurry and James Thomas Scurry, Jr. Opal was a 1997 graduate of South Florence High School and later earned her Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the University of South Carolina. Prior to her illness, she was employed by Palmetto GBA as a claim’s specialist. Opal attended Radiate Church in Columbia.

In addition to her mother of Columbia, Opal is survived by her devoted husband, Kevin Michael Redding; mother-in-law, Janice Arlene Redding of Columbia and her paternal grandmother, Carolyn Scurry of Florence, SC. Opal was preceded in death by her father, James Thomas Scurry, Jr. and her father-in-law, SSGT Melvin Andrew Redding, US Army (Ret).

The graveside service for Opal will be held 2 o’clock, Monday, May 17th at Centerville Cemetery, 867 Centerville Road, Ridgeway, SC with Pastor Travis Lucas and Pastor Chris Kelly officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4 until 7 o’clock Sunday, May 16th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC.

All are welcome to attend, however, in view of the COVID-19 virus, the family request that those who attend be considerate of the health of others.
