Dr. Andrew "Andy" Heidt Ryan Jr., 72, died of Lewy Body Dementia, February 27, 2023. Born on August 20, 1950 in Columbia, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Andrew H. Ryan Sr. and Anna E. Ryan. He was a widower to Mary D. Ryan.
Dr. Ryan, a loving father, husband, son, brother, friend, and dedicated Parrothead, followed his passion for criminal & police psychology for most of his career. He served in the United States Marine Corps, worked with the South Carolina police departments, and served in the roles of Chief Researcher at Department of Defense Polygraph Institute, Chief Psychologist for NCIS, and Personnel Psychologist for the FBI.
He is survived by his daughters, Meghan F. Ryan and Caitlin Ryan Stabler (Heath); his siblings, Dianne Light (Bob), Carole Bartlette, and Vonnie Ryan; beloved fur granddogs, Banksy aka Hotshot, Lonny, and Lucy; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
The funeral service for Dr. Ryan will be held at 2 o'clock on Saturday, March 4th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1 o'clock.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Dr. Andrew H Ryan Jr. to Ashley Gardens Memory Care or to your local HOSPICE organization.
