Arthur Rikard Best Jr., 25, of Columbia, died on Nov. 10, 2015, at the age of 25.

Born in Columbia on June 19, 1990, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Rikard Best (Mary) and the grandson of Mrs. Walter Milton Best (Jean) and the late Mr. Walter Milton Best. He was also the grandson of the late Lt. Col. and Mrs. Charles Alexander Jones (Rhoda) all of Columbia.

Rikard graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in political science and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Columbia. Rikard was employed by Johnson and Johnson, Inc. in Charleston.

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Rikard “Rick” Best (Mary); his sister, Harriette Cleveland Best; his grandmother, Mrs. Walter Milton Best (Jean); his fiancé, Sallie Scott Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Gaillard Johnson of Mt. Pleasant; aunts and uncles, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sheldon Paschal III (Rhoda), Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Benson Jones (Lisa), Mr. and Mrs. James Lawrence Best (Rebecca) and Mr. Walter Milton Best Jr.; as well as many loving cousins all from Columbia.

Rikard was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing all of his life. He leaves behind countless friends and extended family who loved him and will miss him greatly. His loving and gentle spirit glorified his Lord and Savior.

The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, at The First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Derek W. H. Thomas and the Rev. David H. Lauten officiating, after which the family will receive friends in Jackson Hall. Burial at the Churchyard will be private. Rikard and Sallie’s groomsmen will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will be at 4700 Lockewood Lane.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The First Presbyterian Church Deacons Fund, 1324 Marion St., Columbia, SC 29201.
