Most people are familiar with the Democratic and Republican Parties in the United States. However, party affiliation is not the only factor people use to decide how to vote. Many voters choose candidates based on specific issues, like abortion or gun control. Historically, some of the biggest issues for voters have been the economy, the Vietnam War, and busing to integrate schools during the Civil Rights movement.
