YNotU2, Inc., WFMV 95.3 FM radio, and Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin’s Office are collecting school supplies to benefit families of local children as part of this year’s First Day Festival 2019 now through the day of the event, Sunday, August 4. The free annual festival will be held from 2:00 – 5:00 PM at Segra Park, home of the Columbia Fireflies, 1640 Freed Street in Columbia. Supplies may be dropped off at Unity Karate, 7949 Broad River Road in Irmo prior to the event and at Segra Park during the event.

YNotU2 founder Kimani Davis says the festival’s main goal is to reduce the financial burden parents often face when purchasing school supplies. “Removing some of those scary back-to-school roadblocks can offer families a lot of encouragement,” Davis says.

Davis explains that “family partnerships are strengthened and excitement over the upcoming school year is boosted” when finances aren’t a major concern.
