Lexington District One representatives revealed a special “monster-ous” project a few students recently finished to celebrate the end of the school year.

Students in Lexington High School’s National Art Honor Society took monster drawings created by students in Mrs. Derrick’s kindergarten class at New Providence Elementary School, and brought them to life. The LHS artists used the drawings as a reference to recreate the creatures with fabric and batting. The cuddly friends were given to the NPES students to take home.

Lexington High students began the project in early April during NAHS club meetings, adding several extra meetings to finish the monsters. Faculty sponsor Candace Cannon said her students wanted to give back to the community in a different way by combining service, with their passion for art.

According to Lexington One officials, other artistic projects completed by LHS students including selling handmade ornaments and dish towels, donating the proceeds to charity.
