The South Carolina Department of Transportation announced the beginning of an intersection improvement project on Fish Hatchery Road at Busbee Road in Lexington County. The project's purpose is to construct a traffic circle, creating a safer intersection for the public.

As of Oct. 19, the intersection will be transitioned into an "all-way" stop configuration, according to SCDOT. This stage is expected to remain in place until the traffic circle is finished.

Construction is estimated to be completed by the late summer of 2021. Additional notifications will be provided prior to any further changes to traffic patterns.

The project is funded by the new state gas tax. The tax supports SCDOT's 10-Year Plan to improve the quality of roads and bridges in the state after 30 years of deferred maintenance, due to lack of funding.

Drivers traveling through the work zone are asked to be aware of equipment and crews working adjacent to traffic at all times.
