Staff and board members at East Point Academy recognized the school's teachers of the year Monday.

Megan Nagle was named Middle Campus teacher of the year, and the overall 2020-2021 East Point Academy teacher of the year. Wendy Flanagan was named as the Elementary Campus teacher of the year.

Nagle will go on to represent East Point in the South Carolina Public Charter School District’s District Teacher of the Year competition. Nagle began as a substitute teacher in Lexington-Richland Five while working towards her permanent teaching license. She has spent four years at East Point Academy teaching ELA and Computer Fundamentals.

“During this public health crisis, our teachers have adapted their classes to synchronous learning that is engaging to all students, both on and off campus,” said Middle Campus assistant principal, Bruce Moseley.

Educators at East Point Academy have been able to provide a safe, five-day week of in-person instruction since September.

Faculty and staff nominated fellow teachers, then the nominations were narrowed down to nine educators.

Lindsay Fallaw - 1st

Ping Gao - 3rd

Christina Sun - 4th

Christal Weymouth - 5th

Middle Campus nominees included:
