The Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board announced Friday that the Taste of Lake Murray will take place May 6.
The annual event is a culinary battle among local chefs held at Columbia's DoubleTree by Hilton.
Event attendees will have the opportunity to taste each chef's creation and help decide who takes home a win. Due to COVID, the event will have limited seating and masks will be required. Attendees will also be asked to sign a COVID waiver before entering.
This year, Capital City/Lake Murray Country is partnering with World Food Championships (WFC) to create 'Team Lake Murray Country.' The team will compete in Dallas in November where they will have the chance to win $300,000.
“Lake Murray makes up parts of metropolitan Columbia, historic Newberry, rural Saluda and the County of Lexington, which is one of the most vibrant and fastest-growing counties in South Carolina,” said Miriam Atria, President/CEO of Capital City/Lake Murray Country. “This area continues to experience growth in the culinary scene and our regional tourism board wants to encourage and promote our food scene on a national scale through this partnership with WFC. This event will allow us to focus and showcase our regional restaurants/chefs, who have suffered during this pandemic.”
Six competitors participating in the Taste of Lake Murray challenge will make up WFC Team Lake Murray Country. There are currently two open spots left for local chefs to register. Chefs interested in competing are asked to sign up by emailing email@example.com.
Tickets for the event are available online. Profits will be used for the annual Fourth of July fireworks on Lake Murray.
