Oak Grove Elementary School underwent new construction this summer, with the addition of a new building, fresh driveway, car line and parking lot.
Crews were unable to cut the grass for weeks due to the construction, leaving some of the surrounding areas of the school more overgrown than usual.
“We wanted to make sure we had an amazing curb appeal,” said Christy Graham, principal at Oak Grove.
Graham said that the "F3 Detention" fitness group located near the school always offered her help when she needed it, which led her to ask them for assistance in cleaning up the area Saturday before the start of school.
“They came out at 7:30 a.m., right after their workouts and worked for about two hours,” Graham said. “We got this place looking wonderful to welcome our families.”
She said a team of about twelve people were out helping her weed-whack and mow the school grounds to spruce it up just in time for the first day of school.
“As a school, our motto is be kind, work hard and be brave,” Graham said. She said that the F3 group’s willingness to step forward and help her clean the grounds was a clear sign of community support. Graham added that even parents complimented the new look of the school upon arrival Tuesday.
