Boaters are gearing up for the annual Lake Murray Charity Boat Run this Friday and Saturday.

The two-day family fun event, hosted by Carolina Together, is being held in various locations around Lake Murray. All proceeds will benefit Blythewood-based nonprofit Big Red Barn Retreat, a rehabilitation facility that helps veterans, active-duty military, and first responders thrive at home.

The charity event features up to 75 boats. Anyone interested in participating can register Friday from 3 until 5 p.m., followed by the Captain's Meeting and a meet and greet from 6 to 8 p.m.

Neil Boone, Carolina Together marketing and communication director shared that the Captain's Meeting is mandatory for all participants and will feature the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, providing boaters with safety rules and regulations.

"One of our major concerns with having a bunch of boats and a bunch of large boats coming onto Lake Murray is that everybody adheres to safety policies," said Boone. "We want to make sure everyone is safe because Lake Murray is a family-friendly lake."

On Saturday, boat stops are scheduled to open at 10 a.m. at the Lake Murray Dam, and participants will travel to various boat stops.

“Boaters will go across several different stops,” said Boone. “Stops are at the dam, they go all the way up to Saluda, to the middle of the lake, and you get to see all of the scenery that Lake Murray has to offer.”
