Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the individuals who died after being struck by a motor vehicle on Interstate 26 westbound near exit 119 shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday.

According to Fisher, Frank James Bates, 64, and Bobbie Jenkins, 70, both of Columbia, were pronounced dead at the scene due to their injuries.

The vehicle that the couple had been traveling in had become disabled in the median, and they were walking across the westbound lanes of I-26 when they were struck.

The incident is under investigation by South Carolina Highway Patrol.
