Construction is progressing on a new Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) facility in northeast Lexington County. Bureau officials and the Town of Lexington broke ground on the 10-acre facility in Oct. 2020.

Town of Lexington Mayor Steve MacDougall feels that the move speaks volumes to the community's safety.

"What a compliment to have the premier law enforcement agency in the nation choose the Town of Lexington as their state headquarters," MacDougall said. "After the opening of this facility, this will put every major law enforcement agency: city, county, state and now federal in our town on a daily basis."

The facility will be home to the FBI Columbia field office headquarters, which is separated into three buildings in and around the Columbia metro area. Special agents and professional staff from all three offices will be under one roof upon the building's completion. The bureau also has eight satellite offices across the state called resident agencies, remaining in place for state-wide coverage.

The completion date for the new facility is scheduled for summer 2023.

Nice article Ms. Cooper. I hope that this helps with human trafficking, meth, and all other crimes in the area
