Lucy Pruitt, an Irmo Middle School seventh grader, has just won second place in the 2020-2021 National Career Development Association Poetry & Art contest.

"I'm surprised I won second place in the national competition and third place in the state, but I'm also proud and excited,” Pruitt said. “Our art assignment was to draw a poster of what we wanted to be when we grow up, but I didn't know what I wanted to be. So, I thought of drawing some of the many choices I have for a career.”

The theme for the contest was "My Future Career: Imagine the Possibilities!"

Pruitt won third in the South Carolina Career Development Association contest for her age division, then advanced to the national level.

Irmo Middle Principal Danielle Major-Murphy said Pruitt is a talented artist, and hard-working student. "I am delighted that she is being reecognized and is able to showcase her artwork on a state level. As a young artist, Lucy is able to capture her thoughts and display them vibrantly for all to see. She is truly amazing!"

The winning entries for each division will be displayed on the NCDA website, and at the upcoming Global Career Development Conference. National winners also receive a special certificate from NCDA.

The SCCDA is a statewide organization with members who connect on issues, policies and practices relating to career and workforce development, pathways, and transitions while inspiring others to grow professionally.
