Officials from the Gilbert Community Club announced Thursday that the Gilbert Peach Festival will not take place in July.

This is the second year the festival has been canceled due to COVID-19 safety concerns.

Thursday's Facebook announcement read:

"After much deliberation the heart wrenching decision has been made by the Gilbert Community Club Board of Directors to cancel the 2021 Lexington County Peach Festival due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This was not an easy decision to make. The cancellation of the festival for a second year brings a huge disappoint for everyone involved."

The festival, which draws thousands of people during the Fourth of July, features peach-flavored food and beverages, local vendors, live music and other family-friendly activities.

Proceeds from the Gilbert Peach Festival allow the Gilbert Community Club to provide financial support to student volunteers, several local charities, and local schools.

The festival is anticipated to return in 2022.
