The stage is now set for next week’s “Showdown in the Swamp” between two Lexington County undefeated teams.

River Bluff and Gilbert both improved to 5-0 Friday and will face each other in each teams’ final non-region regular season contest.

The Gators held off Irmo 14-7 at home. Shrine Bowl running back Braden Walker accounted for both River Bluff touchdowns in the 1st half from 22 and 33 yards and finished with 121 rushing yards.

Defensively, River Bluff held Irmo to 219 total yards and did not allow a score until nine seconds left in the contest. It came on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Trevon Davis to Kobe Taylor.

Over at Memorial Stadium in Columbia, Gilbert routed Dreher 56-10 in a matchup of head coaches/Indian alumnus Chad Leaphart and Treigh Sullivan.

In starting out 5-0 for the third time in four years, Gilbert amassed 621 total yards of offense. Quarterback Jy Tolen threw for 326 yards and four TDs. For the season, the senior has completed 100-147 passes for 1,544 yards and has thrown just one interception.

Running back Ty Walker rushed for 139 and was one of four Indians to rush for a score, wide receiver Matt Reed had six receptions for 149 yards and two TDs and Alec Holt added three receptions for 121 yards and two TDs.

Dreher’s lone touchdown came on a 85-yard kickoff return TD by Camerin Robinson.

River Bluff holds a 3-2 lead in the all-time series, including last year’s 42-30 win at Gilbert. The Indians have won two of the last three meetings and defeated the Gators 21-17 in their last visit to The Swamp in 2017.
