The United States Marine Corps (USMC) sports leadership academy will train young athletes at its Built to Lead football event Saturday.

Participants ages 14-19 will gather at Benedict College's Charles W. Johnson Stadium (1920 Two Notch Rd) in Columbia for the camp.

USMC’s Built to Lead clinic provides participants with instruction from elite local coaches. Aside from football training, the camp will help instill leadership qualities and offer character building to participants.

During the clinic, participants will take part in sessions focusing on football skills. Various challenges will push them to their physical limits, building character and encouraging teamwork.

Each participant will receive a physical evaluation of various athletic abilities by the Marines on site. Participants will be motivated through personal interaction with U.S. Marines.

The one-day clinic will run from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., following an awards presentation and closing ceremony. The top seven performers from the day will receive All-Academy medals. All participants receive a USMC Sports Leadership Academy t-shirt and free lunch as well as a camp swag bag.

Registration for the clinic is available online.
