University of South Carolina basketball player Aliyah Boston was nominated for an Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly (ESPYS) award but originally did not receive an invite to the award ceremony. She has now been invited but will not be attending.
Boston explained her reasoning for not attending the ESPYS on Twitter.
I thank God for continuing to bless me, for guiding my steps, and for the love and support of my family, fans and community. I would like to say congratulations @78jocelyn_alo and all the ESPY winners🎉 I remain thankful in all things. pic.twitter.com/BkO2iPA8YS— Aliyah A. Boston (@aa_boston) July 20, 2022
She was not invited to the ESPYS because the categories for Best College Athlete in women's and men's sports will not be shown on the live broadcast.
Boston explained that she was more upset over the late invitation than she was over not being invited in the first place.
ColaDaily previously wrote about Dawn Staley’s response to Aliyah’s missing invitation, which can be viewed here.
The ESPYS take place Wednesday night at 8 p.m.
Jay Jay Nesheim, senior director of communications for ESPN, said they do not wish to comment on why Boston is now invited.
