United Way of the Midlands Young Leaders Society (YLS) will host a virtual school supply drive to help prepare kindergarten students for the upcoming school year.

The drive begins Saturday and will last through the month of August. Donors can make purchases online to ensure sanitary, contactless purchases.

“The world looks drastically different right now, but one thing that hasn’t changed is our commitment to help students in the Midlands succeed, both in and out of the classroom,” said Sara Fawcett, United Way of Midlands CEO. “Now more than ever, we need to come together to help provide students with the tools they need to learn.”

YLS chose to assist kindergarten teachers in four school districts in Fairfield, Lexington, Orangeburg and Richland counties.

Volunteers will join together in September to pack backpacks with the donated school supplies to then distribute to the kindergarten students.

Those interested in making a donation toward the school supply drive can visit United Way of the Midlands’ Roonga donation page online. Businesses or community groups interested in hosting a virtual drive online should contact Kalyn Duguay at kduguay@uway.org.
