While Class 4A champion AC Flora started the season at No. 1 in the SC Baseball Coaches Association ranking, eventual Class 3A champion Gilbert was unranked.

Both teams faced each other in March during the final of the Sandlapper Shootout at Gilbert High School. The Falcons defeated the Indians 12-0.

Having won state championships, Gilbert and AC Flora finished the season ranked atop of their respective classifications in the final SCBCA poll released Wednesday.

AC Flora went 8-0 in the postseason in claiming the school’s seventh state title, while Gilbert went 7-1 in winning its fifth state title.

A total of eight Midlands teams placed in the final rankings.

Dutch Fork and Blythewood finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in Class 5A. Lugoff-Elgin placed third and Airport fifth in Class 4A and state runner-up Andrew Jackson was second and Gray Collegiate fifth in Class 2A.
