An orchestra performance where all members are in casual blue jeans is not a sight often seen... except once a year when the S.C. Philharmonic celebrates Beethoven's birthday.
The orchestra's annual Beethoven and Blue Jeans performance began in the 1998-99 season and has continued ever since. Orchestra members as well as most of the audience members are decked out in denim to partake in the fun.
This year's show will be kicking off Beethoven's 250th birthday with Symphonies 5 and 6. Performances will be held at the Koger Center Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.
The Koger Center box office will reopen from the holidays Friday, where tickets will be available for purchase. Prices start at $22 per person. Online ticket purchasing is available here. When purchasing tickets for Saturday night's performance, enter code "Transitions" to allow for 75 percent of the ticket price to be donated to Columbia's Transitions Homeless Center.
