Midlands residents had the chance to get out of the house without the kids for the evening at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden’s Hoppy Hour Thursday.

The adults-only event allowed guests to experience Riverbanks after hours and enjoy some brews.

During the height of COVID-19 business closures, hosting public gatherings was impossible.

“It’s so good to be outside,” said Desmond Williams, a guest at Thursday’s event. “I hate being inside, so I’ve loved this event tonight.”

Williams and his group of friends decided to attend Hoppy Hour because they felt like they needed a space to get together that was a safer option than being in a crowded indoor space.

He was hopeful that the zoo will continue hosting outdoor events in the upcoming months. “Hopefully they’ve had a good turnout and will continue to host events like this in the future,” said Williams.

Many guests were able to see the new white rhinoceroses that arrived at Riverbanks in July.
