A 14-year-old Richland District One student has been arrested after a gun was discovered at St. Andrews Middle School Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, another student alerted school officials to the possibility of a student carrying a handgun. Administrators were able to obtain the weapon from the student without incident.

The student was arrested and booked into the juvenile wing at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center and has been charged with carrying a firearm on school grounds, unlawful carry, and possession of a pistol under 18.

No threats were made to any students or staff.
