The football buzz is picking up around the University of South Carolina campus.  Shane Beamer is just eight Saturdays away from coaching his first real game as a head coach when the Gamecocks play host to Eastern Illinois.

After a couple of weeks of vacation, Beamer has a full schedule ahead for the rest of July.  He’ll be in Hoover, AL Monday for an appearance at SEC Media Days along with DE Kingsley Enagbare and TE Nick Muse.

Recruiting, of course, continues for Beamer and he gained another private commitment Sunday. The prospect has been expected to go public this week.  The dead period ends June 24 and Beamer is expected to have several prospects on campus the final week of the month culminating in a cookout on July 31.

Beamer also will host his first media golf tournament on July 29 at the Woodcreek Club in Elgin.  Following the golf, Beamer will hold a press conference with the media.

UofSC running back Kevin Harris was selected by the South Carolina Football Hall of Fame as the winner of the Blanchard-Rogers Trophy for the 2020 season.  The trophy is awarded to South Carolina's most outstanding collegiate player of the year (eligibility includes all college football players playing in SC as well as SC natives playing outside the state). The honor will be awarded by George Rogers at the SCFHOF's annual Enshrinement Ceremony at the Hilton Greenville on July 22. In his first season as a starter, Harris led the SEC in rushing yards per game (113.8) and ran a total of 1,138 yards in just 10 games.

Eight UofSC players from the 2021 team and three signees were selected in the MLB Draft earlier this week.  Most are expected to sign pro contracts.  Here’s the list of drafted Gamecocks including round and overall selection number.
