Columbia Police Department is seeking the community's assistance in solving the homicide of a 94-year-old Columbia woman.

Robbie Atkinson was found deceased in her home at the 1700 block of Calhoun Street at approximately 3 p.m., Sept. 18, according to CPD.

Officers said a relative of Atkinson called 9-1-1 after finding her deceased. There were no immediate signs of foul play at the scene, according to officials, however, an autopsy conducted by the Richland County Coroner’s Office determined evidence of a homicide.

Richland County coroner Naida Rutherford spoke at a press conference held Thursday, urging anyone with information about Atkinson's death to report it immediately.

"We are asking the public, her neighbors, our community to come together and reach out if you saw anything suspicious during that time, the day of, the day before, a few days before, or if you noticed anyone lingering around, please let us know," Rutherford said." "She was a respected educator for many decades in our community, and we’re asking that if you saw anyone, again, near the home, on the premises, that you reach out."

Anyone who may have information are asked to contact (803) 576-1799 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.

Additional details will be provided as received by officials.
