According to a report released this month by Realtor.com, the Columbia metro area has the fastest-rising suburbs in the country, with a median gain of 3,459 spots for its suburban zip codes in May.
More impressively, half of Columbia’s suburban zip codes saw at least 42 percent growth in views per property compared to last year.
The suburbs of Columbia were also “among the few markets that saw its pace of sales continue quickening while the rest of the country’s pace slowed," according to the report.
Interest in the housing market has returned to the suburbs with more property views than before the COVID-19 crisis. Three months into the pandemic, the number of suburban home listings received more views than they had prior to COVID, with views per property in suburban ZIP codes rising by 13%.
However, it is too early to tell if the views will translate to sales.
Realtor.com’s Market Hotness Index ranks areas based on two criteria: market demand and the pace of the market. The marked demand is measured by page views and the pace of the market is measured by the number of days the listing remains active.
