Carowinds amusement park announced on social media Monday that the park will reopen for a 'Welcome Back Weekend' May 15 and 16. The park initially closed its doors in March 2020. Carowinds is the closest amusement park to the Midlands, located along the North Carolina-South Carolina state line with the majority of the park in Charlotte.

Season passholders will have the opportunity to experience the excitement before its reopening to the general public May 22.

Guests will be able to enjoy the park's rides and attractions, live entertainment, appearances by Snoopy and the PEANUTS gang, concessions, special merchandise sales and more.

Carowinds' water park Carolina Harbor will reopen May 29 with added features including a boogie board racer.

Safety precautions will be in place throughout the park to ensure the safety of guests and staff.

Space is limited for 'Welcome Back Weekend.' Those interested in attending are encouraged to purchase a season pass ahead of time. Spots for the event will be open for reservation Apr. 26 at 9 a.m.
