Two people were killed in Richland County Saturday night, according to Cpl. Sonny Collins of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The collision involved three vehicles and occurred just before 9:30 p.m. in the eastbound emergency lane at mile marker 84, in Elgin.
Collins said a van and a Jeep were in the emergency lane and people were outside of the vehicles. Two people were changing a tire, when a vehicle crashed into the Jeep and it hit the van, killing two people changing the tire.

The driver of one of the vehicles was taken to the hospital with injuries.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts later Sunday released  the names of the two individuals who died in the collision.

Andrew Tad Reeser, 45, of Pine Loop Drive, Blythewood, died at the scene after being struck by a vehicle.  An autopsy indicated that the cause of death was due to Multiple Blunt Force Injuries to the body.

Brian Kinney Walker, 49, of Glenn Knoll Place, Columbia, was transported from the scene by Richland County EMS and taken to Prisma Health Richland Memorial Hospital where he died at 10:41 p.m.  An autopsy indicated the cause of death was due to Multiple Blunt Force Injuries due to being struck by a vehicle.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office and the SC Highway Patrol are investigating the incident.
