Forest Acres Police Chief Gene Sealy spoke at a press conference Tuesday regarding an armed robbery that occurred at South Carolina Federal Credit Union around 9:50 a.m.

According to Sealy, Forest Acres police officers received an armed robbery call at the bank, with two suspects reported to be armed and on-scene. As officers arrived, one suspect came out of the bank and would not comply with officers’ requests to show their hands or get on the ground, Sealy said.

“The suspect fled the bank parking lot and at that time, the officer fired two shots at the suspect. The suspect did crash into a vehicle as it was exiting the parking lot,” he said. She was transported to a local hospital, and Sealy noted that the gunshot wound does not appear to be life threatening.

The female suspect was found to be armed, possessing a backpack of money from the bank, and driving a car that was reported stolen from Georgia, according to Sealy.

The second suspect was initially thought to have hostages inside the bank, but it was discovered that he had in fact fled the scene. Sealy described him as a white male, with a short beard. It was reported that upon entering the bank, he was wearing glasses and a hoodie. However, the hoodie has since been recovered a short distance from the crime scene.

“We have an active crime scene, bloodhounds and helicopters are still looking for the second suspect,” said Sealy.

Four local schools are on lockdown as a safety precaution, while officers continue to search for the second suspect. “We know he’s armed,” Sealy said. “Both suspects were armed.” Columbia Police Department and Richland County Sheriff’s Department are assisting.

The portion of Forest Drive around the bank will remain closed into Tuesday afternoon.  Additional information will be updated as received. This story is still developing.
