Sinkhole at 4000 Trenholm Rd. City of Columbia photo.

The Columbia Police Department reported Tuesday morning that a large sinkhole, which first appeared Monday, is still the cause of lane closures on Trenholm Road in Columbia.

According to the department, it was caused by a broken water line. The Department of Transportation is on-site and working on the road. However, all lanes of Trenholm Road remain closed until further notice. The sinkhole occurred at the intersection of Trenholm and Deans Lane. Any changes will be announced when received.
