There will be a free pop-up veterinary clinic Saturday to help local low-income and homeless families with pets.

Veterinarian Dr. Jessica Graham of Graham Vet to Pet Veterinary Services, along with The Street Dog Coalition non-profit organization, will be hosting the clinic in Chapin. The event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon in the parking lot of Chapin We Care (1808 Chapin Road).

The clinic will offer free vaccinations, de-worming and parasite treatment, spay and neuter vouchers, exams, and pet food. No appointment is necessary.

Graham said she dreamed of hosting a free pet clinic for years. “I was just unsure where or even how to begin,” she said. Then, she learned about the Colorado-based Street Dog Coalition at a veterinary conference. The organization’s mission is to fund free pet care for the nation’s homeless community. It inspired Graham to volunteer at one of the group’s street clinics.  According to Graham, it was an eye-opener.

She reached out to the coalition after returning home to the Midlands. She said she was excited when the organizers eagerly offered to help. “They simply asked when and where we needed them. I told them, ‘here and now,'” Graham laughed.

If the event is successful, both Graham and Street Dog Coalition hope to co-host more opportunities to help pets in the future.

The clinic is in need of supplies including pet beds, leashes, collars, and food. To find out how to donate or receive additional information, visit the Facebook event page or contact Graham at
