It was announced Monday evening that Tartan Day South, a family-friendly festival celebrating Celtic heritage, will be cancelled this year. It was scheduled to take place March 25 through 28.

According to event officials, the decision was made after considerable deliberation and with a heavy heart.

"The decision was not made lightly and only occurred after consulting state and local authorities, previous participants, our sponsors and staff and other key partners. Unfortunately, in the current environment, we do not feel that we can deliver the same outstanding experience everyone has come to know and expect," the beginning of the announcement reads.

Organizers assured patrons that the 10th annual Tartan Day South will be back in 2022, and worth the wait. The event is scheduled for March 31 through April 3, 2022.

Tartan Day South is a four-day festival that is held at the Historic Columbia Speedway in Cayce. The event includes a free movie night, Celtic Commotion Concert, Highland athletics, pipe bands, live Celtic music, a marketplace with vendors, herding demonstrations, sword fighting exhibitions, a British car show and more.
