A Richland County council member faced a judge Friday morning after being indicted on 24 charges alleging misconduct in office.
A grand jury handed down councilwoman Dalhi Myers' indictment Thursday.
According to the indictment, Myers has been charged with the following crimes:
- misconduct in office (two counts)
-use of official position for personal gain (10 counts)
-embezzlement (10 counts)
-drawing and uttering a fraudulent check, value more than $5,000 (one count)
-use of campaign funds for personal expenses (one count)
During Friday morning's hearing, a prosecutor said Myers went on trips to Greece, Nashville, Detroit and Georgia and said she claimed the expenses were business-related. Additionally, she was accused of purchasing items like snacks and books, and repairing her personal cellphone with taxpayers' money.
The judge issued her a $100,000 personal recognizance bond. She also has to surrender her passport, hand over all county property, and is not allowed to contact other council members.
Myers' attorney said Myers should be allowed to drive herself to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center for processing, which the judge allowed.
