Residents in unincorporated areas of Richland County will no longer have curbside pickup of bulk items such as furniture, appliances and mattresses.

The county is suspending the service beginning Saturday, March 28, until further notice. The move is being made to focus on household garbage and recycling as “essential service to maintain the health and well-being of the community,” the county said in a news release announcing the service cut.

The county contracts with private companies to provide waste disposal services. There is no change to current household garbage and recycling collection, according to the announcement.

The county also has closed its drop-off centers at 10531 Garners Ferry Road in Eastover, 1070 Caughman Road North in Columbia, and 900 Clemson Road in Columbia, as well as the construction and demolition debris landfill at 1070 Caughman Road North.
