A man was killed Saturday in an ATV accident in Kershaw County.

Kershaw County 911 received a call at 8:54 p.m. Saturday after an ATV flipped over on top of a person, in the road, according to Kershaw County Coroner David West

When EMS and fire personnel arrived on the scene, Stephen Campbell, 21, of the Westville area, was found dead. West said Campbell was a volunteer firefighter in Kershaw County.

Campbell was travelling down Chipola Road toward Kelly Road, which a dirt road, according to the coroner’s office press release, Sunday.

“It looks like he went off the right side of the road and went up a dirt bank causing the ATV to flip a number of times,” West said in the release.
“And what was so sad about this one, was Stephen was one of them (a first responder) – he was a volunteer fire fighter for Kershaw County Fire service,” West said.
