What a win for Camden. The Bulldogs got 278 yards rushing with 150 of those coming from star tailback Willis Lane. He added 3 touchdowns in the win. On defense, it was a stellar effort as they held Hartsville to 238 yards total. And 90 of those yards came in the fourth quarter alone. But in my opinion, Camden won in many other ways on Friday. If you look at their region opponents coming up, they all took losses. Fairfield Central, IndianLand and even defending 3A champion Chester were taken down. As the Bulldogs win each week, the rest of the state gets put on notice. Camden matches up really well in the rest of their non conference slate and will only build confidence heading into a big month of October.
By the numbers- It wa the first home regular season loss for the Red Foxes since 2011. The Bulldogs are 3-0 for the first time since 2010 and it marks their first win over Hartsville in 10 years.

This was probably the game of the week in the Midlands area.
Both teams came back from 10 point deficits, but it was Chapin who prevailed in the end. Demons trailed 17-7 at one point before reeling off three straight touchdowns. Eagles then scored twice in the final 5 minutes to win. I was extremely impressed with Roger Pedroni at QB for Chapin. I’ll take that kid any day for high school football. He’s smart, goes thru his progressions, runs it when he needs too, and makes good throws. He was 19 of 29 for 265 yards with 3 total touchdowns with an interception. A scamble on 4th and 10 outside the pocket, finding Xavier Short(8 catches 160 yards) in man to man coverage was the go ahead score. It came with :22 seconds left in the game.  You hate it for LE. After winning the opening week over Westwood, they have been in two really close games but come up short. You could argue a few plays on both sides away from 3-0 or 2-1 at the worst. Eli McGee had 18 carries for 96 hard yards and 2 scores in the loss for the Demons. Josh Gary caught two touchdown passes, one for QB Will Morris and another from halfback Scotty Dean.

Unfortunately the bigger story here was on the sidelines. It seems we are finally discovering what the punishment was for Blythewood coach Jason Siedel. If you remember, it was reported that he “violated the district’s position on recruiting” after being turned in by Ridge View back in January. He was not on the sidelines Friday and remains to be seen for how long. The Bengals are on the road the next two weeks. It’s my two cents here, but I’m just not sure I get how you can choose which games to be suspended for. Whether that’s Blythewood High, the school district, or the coach himself. But like I said, unfortunately for Bengals fans its a slight distraction from the team winning here.
In the game itself, Fairfield picked a bad time and opponent to have 100 yards in penalties and turnovers. I still think the Griffins are better than their 1-2 record indicates. Its still a fairly young team but very talented on defense. And I think thier quarterback Stephon Gadsden has some potential to get going too. Josh Strickland had a nice game for the Bengals as he tossed three touchdown passes in the win. Brandon Edwards had 12 tackles for Blythewood.

Nice bouncback win for the Vikings. After getting throttled by Dutch Fork last week, Spring Valley gets their first win of the season here. We got to see glimpses of this new spread offense we have heard so much about. Saw some of the highlights Friday night and looked pretty fluid. It was a little different seeing a Spring Valley team drop back and throw slants and post patterns after years of running the triple option. But hopefully this builds confidence for that unit and they continue to work and get better at it. DeQuandre Smith threw 4 touchdown passes and ran for one more with Quanta Jackson accounting for three total scores. On defense Hy’Kein Nhan intercepted three passes.

Clemson baseball commit Ty Olenchuck is now the school’s all time passing leader for touchdowns(69). He passed his brother Derek on the list who helped lead DF to a state title win back in 2013.

Falcons are 3-0 for the first time since 2014. Start paying attention to this defense of Flora. Word is out that they are very good. They get a bye week before playing rival Richland Northeast in two weeks.

The Highlanders improve to 2-1 with a win over the Cards. Ronnie Porter has been good this season on both sides. He had over 160 yards rushing with 9 stops on defense. First win for Heathwood over CN since 2014.

Been a long time since Hammond started the season 1-2. But no shame in losing to the North Carolina(NCISSA) state champions. With the talent the Skyhawks have compared to the rest of thier 3A opponents in state coming up, they should be fine. I would imagine the two losses to premier teams will have them ready and tested for the postseason.

Big win for the Hornets. After winning only 2 games last year they are halfway there. They converted a fourth and 17 to score a touchdown pass and get the win on the road over Fox Creek.
