Three men will vie for mayor and five others will face off for two council seats in the Town of Blythewood’s general election Nov. 5.

The deadline for candidates to file for this fall’s election was Tuesday.

On the ballot for the mayor’s office are Malcolm Gordge, Bryan Franklin and Keith Bailey. Gordge and Franklin are current Blythewood council members. Bailey served as Blythewood’s mayor from 2008 to 2012.

Candidates for two at-large members of town council are Eddie Baughman, Barry Belville, Sloan Jarvis Griffin, Donald Brock and Marcus Taylor. Baughman is a current council member and mayor pro-tem. Brock and Griffin both serve on Blythewood’s planning commission. Belville and Taylor are newcomers to town politics.

Blythewood residents who want to vote in the November election must register in person by noon Saturday, Oct. 5; by fax, email or online by 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, or by mail postmarked by Monday, Oct.7. To register to vote or to obtain absentee ballots, voters can contact the Richland County Voter Registration Office at 2020 Hampton Street in Columbia. Absentee ballots can be requested by calling the Voter Registration Office at 576-2240. Polls will be open Nov. 5 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
