The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles will expand operations by reopening all 66 branch offices throughout the state, beginning May 4, to increase convenience for customers amid COVID-19.

The additional openings will allow the DMVs to service more customers on a daily basis while still adhering to social distancing. All offices will still operate by appointment only, which can be scheduled at SCDMVonline.com.

"I am very appreciative of all who have completed their transactions at SCDMVonline.com or delayed visiting the SCDMV to keep themselves and our employees healthy,” said SCDMV Executive Director Kevin Shwedo. “We look forward to returning to full service at the earliest opportunity.”

All branch offices, (except Allendale and McCormick) will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. All offices are closed Monday, May 11 in accordance with the published state holiday schedule.

SCDMV Director of Branch Services, Courtney Saxton, said she recognizes the recent limitations of operating out of only 46 of the offices. "Reopening branches that have been temporarily closed due to the pandemic will significantly increase the number of appointments we can make available to customers," she said.

The SCDMV will still limit the number of customers inside an office, and agency personnel will continue to serve customers at every-other-counter to ensure proper spacing.

Non-commercial road tests remain suspended indefinitely due to social distancing concerns. A customer needing a road test may contact a licensed driving school in the state to determine if the school is currently offering road tests. The SCDMV will continue to offer a limited number of commercial driver's license skill tests, and will continue to conduct motorcycle licensing road tests.

Customers are encouraged to check the SCDMV website to see if they can complete their transaction online.
