Two West Columbia businesses have recently begun working together to help groups of healthcare professionals amid COVID.

Primal Gourmet, at 725 Meeting St., has implemented a matching donation program to deliver meals to Lexington Medical Center. Always Original Bakery, which recently opened at 501 Meeting St., is now adding to the effort by supplying cookies for the meals delivered.

The two businesses connected through the newly-organized WeCo River District merchants' association.

George Grogan, co-owner of Always Original Bakery, said they are proud to partner with Primal Gourmet for the effort to support local healthcare workers.

"When we heard about the program, we jumped at the opportunity, because just like Primal Gourmet, we at Always Original Bakery are grateful for our community's healthcare workers and first responders. This is one way we can say 'thank you' to them," he said.

Anyone who would like to make a donation toward the meals can do so via Venmo @primalgourmet, or through Primal Gourmet's website. Learn more about Always Original Bakery on its Facebook page.
