Samuel Small Jr., president of First Palmetto Bank, recently discovered his bank was named the "best small bank" in the state by Newsweek magazine.
The magazine released a list of America's Best Banks 2021, naming what LendingTree determined to be the best small and large bank in every state in the nation.
"From a universe of more than 2,500 FDIC-insured institutions, we assessed US banks and the savings and checking accounts they offer based on 55 separate factors to come up with a best-in-class option in 19 categories - including the best big and small bank in every state, because banking in many ways remains a local endeavor," the article reads.
Small, who operates out of the Devine Street location in Columbia, just found out about his bank's acknowledgement two weeks ago. He said he can't help but feel proud of all the work the staff has done, and for being recognized for how the bank serves its citizens.
"For over 115 years, we have maintained a strong community banking presence with a focus on customer service," he said. "This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our employees, as well as our efforts to provide high-quality products and services to all of those we serve."
First Palmetto was founded in 1904 and headquartered in Camden. There are now 23 locations across the state and five in the Midlands, with the newest at 2530 Devine St.
