A slice of Brooklyn is coming to the Vista this week with the opening of Brooklyn Express Pizza.
The restaurant has one location in Irmo which the previous owner was ready to close after COVID, but Doug Ames swept in and decided to purchase the restaurant. “I bought it about three months ago and it has been going great,” said Ames.
The restaurant is an authentic New York-style pizzeria, according to Ames. “Our pizza is thin crust and has a little crunchy taste, which is awesome,” he said.
Brooklyn Express Pizza offers various pizzas, wings, meatballs, garlic knots, Strombolis, Philly cheese steaks and desserts. Ames said his head chef is a New Yorker who worked in the food industry in Manhattan for 30 years, guaranteeing authentic flavors. The restaurant will also offer a gluten-free crust option.
“We make our dough fresh every day,” he said. “Some people want to say it’s the water in New York City but it’s all in the way the guy makes the dough.”
A soft opening for the new location will be held Thursday with a special including two giant pizza slices plus a drink for $10.
Ames said Brooklyn Express Pizza will be open Mondays through Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Fridays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. “until the last pizza is sold.”
Ames plans to offer a variety of specials including discounts for military and first responders, ladies’ nights and game day specials. He is also making arrangements to partner with the University of South Carolina to provide students the option to pay for their meal with Carolina Cash.
All major delivery services will have accessibility to deliver food from Brooklynn Express Pizza and the restaurant will have its own delivery service on Fridays and Saturdays.
Brooklynn Express Pizza is located at 701 Gervais Street, the former home of Sabor Latin Street Grill. Additional updates and information will be posted to the pizzeria’s Facebook page.
