Cayce has another new business, one suited perfectly for art lovers and those who like to support their community and state.

State of the Art Gallery and Pottery Studio officially welcomed the public with a grand opening Saturday at at 2007 State Street in Cayce. The new business, started by Valery Smith and Levi Wright, displays and sells exclusively original work from South Carolina artists.

“We really wanted to laser focus that,” Smith said. “We're trying to be something friendly and casual, the common man's art gallery."

Located next door to recent State St. addition Piecewise Coffee, State of the Art is the latest piece of the ongoing renaissance in Cayce and West Columbia, with numerous new businesses attracting people to the area.

Smith, who owns and runs the gallery, and Wright, who leads the pottery side, share a devotion to South Carolina and a belief that art is something to be shared, something to be accessible for everyone and a way to bring a community together.

State of the Art will also offer pottery classes open to the community. Information on those classes and on the new gallery and studio in general is available at
