Lexington’s GreenWise Market will be permanently closing its doors after just eight months of operation.
The store opened in December at 5336 Sunset Blvd. South Carolina’s second location in Mount Pleasant will also close.
“We have made the difficult decision to close both GreenWise Market locations in South Carolina,” director of communications Maria Brous told Cola Daily. “Both locations were acquisitions that fit our needs at the time of opening; however, as our concept has evolved, the locations have space constraints that will not fit our current vision for GreenWise Markets.”
GreenWise, owned by Publix, carries a variety of products not usually found at Publix stores. Features of the Lexington GreenWise include a soup bar, freshly-made sandwiches and hot meals, sushi, and a wide selection of organic products. The store also has a bar which offers locally roasted coffee and other beverages including wine, beer, smoothies and fresh kombucha.
Brous said all store associates were notified of the closing and have been offered positions at neighboring Publix stores.
The final day of business will be Aug. 29, according to Brous. Both South Carolina locations will close at 7 p.m. that evening.
