US News & World Report released the rankings for South Carolina's top hospitals this week, and Lexington Medical Center was listed as No. 5. The hospital was also at the top of the list for the Columbia area.
One of the most notable accomplishments that led to Lexington Medical's recognition is its 'high performing' rankings in nine different procedures/conditions:
- colon cancer surger/gastroenterology & GI surgery
- heart failure
- heart bypass surgery
- heart attack
- kidney failure
- knee replacement
- chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
The No. 1 hospital in the state is the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, according to the US News & World Report, followed by Bon Secours St. Francis Health System in Greenville. McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence and Spartanburg Medical Center tied for third place.
Lexington Medical was the only hospital in the Midlands area to have been named one of the state's best.
