Pizza lovers can expect a new spot to enjoy their favorite food coming to Columbia this fall. Owner of Saluda’s in Five Points, Steven Cook, will open Il Bucato, a carry-out only restaurant on North Beltline Blvd.

“The idea began before COVID, but we started moving forward with it anyway,” Cook said. “It became an ideal concept for a post-COVID era.”

According to Cook, the idea for the restaurant came after his family struggled to come to a consensus on what to eat for dinner some nights. He said the concept of Il Bucato is to be a one-stop place to feed the whole family."

Menu items at Il Bucato will include pizza, salads, hot subs and pasta dishes. Cook said part of the restaurant being a better and healthier option is due to the use of local produce. He explained that the kitchen at Il Bucato will follow the same standards as the kitchen at Saluda’s when selecting fresh ingredients.

Cook said the restaurant space was formerly the home of a local dry cleaner, so he decided to incorporate that into the name of his restaurant using the Italian word for 'laundry,' Il Bucato, as the name.

Il Bucato will open at 1615 North Beltline Blvd. in Columbia in early October.

“We’re excited to be part of the neighborhood,” Cook said. “We’ve had a great outpouring of support already.”
