Sneakerheads and lovers of nostalgic fashion will have a new outlet to shop their favorite looks come Aug. 14.

Harlem's Closet will open at 514 Gervais Street located at the corner of Huger and Gervais streets offering sneakers, streetwear, vintage t-shirts, antique toys, trading cards and more.

Co-owner Kenneth Joyner, Jr. and two of his best friends dreamed up a store years ago in college and have finally been able to make it a reality.

"Basically the store is me and two of my best friends," Joyner said. "We’re all sneaker collectors and I thrift a lot. Ever since I was in college I said I wanted to open a buy, sell, trade shop."

The store's name came from Joyner's desire to name his first son Harlem when he eventually becomes a father someday.

Joyner expressed his excitement for the store's opening, explaining the experience he and his co-owners wish to bring to customers. "We want it to feel like an actual closet when people walk in the store," he said. "We want to have a throwback nostalgia."

During the grand opening celebration Aug. 14, the store will have live music, food, and giveaways for customers including sneakers and surprise items.

"All of us are excited, our family members are excited," Joyner said. "We've been getting a lot of support on social media too."
