Town of Blythewood residents packed Doko Manor Monday night for a town hall meeting to learn more about Scout Motors' multibillion-dollar investment in the area.
It was announced earlier that the all-electric car manufacturing company decided to establish its manufacturing operations in Blythewood.
According to Richland County Economic Development Office officials, the company's planned $2 billion investment can potentially create 4,000 or more permanent jobs, setting new records for a Richland County economic development project.
The meeting allowed residents to learn more about the project and submit questions that were answered by Scout Motors representatives, town, county, and state officials, and others who have helped bring the project full circle.
Key concerns addressed during the meeting included environmental concerns regarding smog, pollution, hazardous materials, water runoff, and design plans for the traffic infrastructure. Additional concerns addressed were the impact on the school district, the value of homes in the area, and job opportunities.
Blythewood residents will have another opportunity to submit additional questions during the Richland County Council Meeting March 21.
